Freedom of expression

Project summary

This project involved 14 young people with learning disabilities who explored and expressed their opinions and promoted the right to Freedom of expression for all.

The group met at the arts centre and came from 7 different care/training programmes in the Cork. The group choose to use different media voice, movement, music, digital media and visual arts as their form of expression. The project involved at lot of work outdoors in the environment and in public settings

A video and large scale images were produced that will be used by the young people as a means of promoting the right they have as young people with intellectual disabilities to be listened to, and to educate the public these images of the groups working and video were displayed in Cork city.

Project aims

That the young people would achieve:

•  increased ability to integrate into group

•  increased ability to integrate activities

•  increased ability to integrate and participate in discussions

•  increased ability to integrate into collective activities

•  increased ability to integrate into decision-making

•  in freedom and confidence in participating in creative activities

•  development new skills and existing talent

That the public would be more aware of achievements and involvement of young people with disabilities in cultural activity.

Young people who were involved in this project also participated in Art Encounter our international arts exchange , sharing their skills and experience.
