MURAL TRAINING FOR YOUTH EMPOWERMENT

PROJECT SUMMARY
This project provided opportunity for youth workers and trainee youth workers (pairs coming from the same organizations, to learn the methodologies of mural arts, practical art skills as well as the educational and personal development and empowerment aspects to apply to local youth work and youth exchanges.
The young people are now passing their skills on to their groups at home and will implement mural projects between now and June.
The theme of the training was the importance of public art in community development and youth participation.
ACTIVITIES INCLUDED:
Getting to know you, group dynamic activities
Presentations from young representantes of funarte
Tour of esteli’s murals
Intercultural exchange evenings
Day trip to local waterfalls and view point
Meetings with local community groups
Brainstorming themes for the mural
Sketching designs for the mural
Painting the mural in the street
Launch of the mural and street party
PROJECT OUTCOMES:
Mural painted by the group in Esteli city centre
Cultural exchange
Young people from different backgrounds making friends and working together
Youth workers gained knowledge of how to support young people in similar projects
Existing partnerships strengthened
New relationships with organizations from Hungary and Guatemala established
Peer education successful model
Future projects planned
